Why five stars then. So you've broke your tab off too. Yeah I have had to replace 2 of them. I suppose there is still no better replacement, so of course they are the best tool for the job. I am more gentle now.
I bought this mount to allow me to use my Edge 305 on a second bike. The mount was identical to the one included with the Edge 305, so everything fit perfectly.
I guess Garmin isn't reading reviews on Amazon or just doesn't care that they're making a piece of junk. If the only way to secure a very expensive computer to a bicycle is with a cheap piece of (overpriced) plastic, then the computer should at least come with a short tether, so it doesn't get lost when the plastic attachment unit inevitably breaks. If I didn't like everything else about the 705 so much, I'd advise against buying one, just for this reason.
OEM bracket broke after 1 year - for whatever reason. This one work fine so far, but I don't get the same level of reassuring click when the unit engages, so I always pull on the unit to make sure it really is in. So far it is.
It is a superbly-designed product. That's what I've averaged. If it weren't frustrating enough that they break, it's just plain a pain to get the computer off the bike. I'm both a frequent rider and consummate gadget freak. I vowed after the first one broke that I'd be more careful, but it doesn't help. Sigh. When you get past the premium price, the ability to track everything and to connect to ANT+ devices (like my PowerTap) make it indispensable. The problem is that whoever designed the bike mount should (literally) be fired. And when I say eventually, I mean about three months.
Just ordered three for my two bikes (I cannibalized the last good one off my other bike). I love the 705. You have to push and wiggle, all while depressing the flimsy tab, and eventually, the computer pops out, with the mount often cutting into your hand in the process. Not sure how to get through to Garmin on this, but FIX YOUR MOUNT.Until then, I will keep buying new mounts. I've gone through three in just the past year. If you take your computer off every day (to record its voluminous data capture), the mount will eventually break. $14 each. I love incenting them to NOT fix the mount.
